Erle’s bike is a no-expense-spared Randonneur. It’s designed to get the right balance between speed and comfort, with full fenders, front load, integrated dynamo lighting and a full sized frame pump.
The frame was custom-made for him, along with a front rack and stem. It’s built in the style of a classic French Randonneur – front load, low trail, 650b wheels with 42mm Grand Bois Hetre tyres. Everything on the bike is elegantly integrated, with braze-on centre-pull brakes, a bell mount built into the stem, a custom mount for the tail light, and so on.
The cranks are Compass reissues of the classic Rene Herse cranks, allowing for a wide range double-ring setup. The shifting is a Shimano-Campagnolo-hybrid and works flawlessly. The rear hub is a Curtis Odom and the front is a Schmidt SON.
