What do you do at Commuter?
I send out the weborders from our online shop, chat to people on the phone, and generally buzz around the shop! Also self-diagnosed shop barista
What did you do for work before Commuter Cycles?
Commuter Cycles was my first ever job. #Flex
What got you into riding?
Exploring the suburbs around where I lived every day after school. Now, bikepacking and immersing myself in beautiful country has become my passion 🙂
What was the first bike you bought with your own money?
2016 Surly Cross-Check, saved from my 1st year of wages at CC
Tell us a little about your current bikes?
I am lucky to have 2 beautiful bikes. My go-to is a 2022 Surly Midnight Special, with handbuilt wheels and dynamo setup by my lovely colleagues. It’s set up with front rack, and the fattest tires I could squeeze in. My other bike is a early 2000s Kona Cinder Cone, with cruisy Klunker bars. It is for going slow, and looking at the places I’m riding through.
Favourite riding and non-riding food?
My favourite riding food is a 8 pack of WoolWorths muesli bars. My favourite non-ride food is the big breakfast from Green Refrectory, with extra mushrooms!
Best day on a bike?
My first 100km day, on Gariwerd country. Rode alone on a bright, sunny day. Was offered a cup of tea by the Halls Gap Senior 4WD club, and dropped my camera in the river. How exciting!
Favourite route/riding accessible to Melbourne?
Hop on a random V-Line, and explore! You never know what you’ll find.
What do you do when you’re not at Commuter (other than ride bikes!)?
I study environmental science, and am a maths tutor. On a sunny evening, find me down at the Edinburgh gardens basketball court!
What is the kindest thing that anyone has ever done for you?
A truck driver in Gippsland picked me up off the side of the road, dehydrated, hungry, and with a flat tire. It was a 40 degree day, and I had been walking my bike for the past 15km. He chucked me and my bike in the back of his truck, gave me sandwiches and water, and drove me half an hour to the nearest train station. What a kind stranger.
