Disc Brake Calipers
At Off Course, we work hard to stock an extensive range of disc brake calipers from our favourite brands like Shimano, SRAM, Paul, Avid, Growtac and Tektro.
The caliper is the hard-biting jaw of your brake system. Depending on your choice of mechanical or hydraulic braking, your caliper will use either a pivoting arm or pistons (respectively) to clamp pads down on the rotor and bring you to a stop.
Cable “Pull”
When shopping for mechanical brake calipers, keep cable “pull” in mind. Brake levers and calipers are designed so that a certain amount of cable is pulled to engage the brake. Some calipers will be designated as “short” or “road” pull, and engage most effectively when a shorter amount of cable is pulled by the lever. Other calipers are “long” or “mountain” pull, and are designed to be effective with a longer amount of cable pulled by the lever. So long as the levers and calipers use the same “pull”, you can enjoy safe and snappy braking.
