Derailleur Hangers

Your derailleur hanger is the bridge between your bicycle’s frame and the derailleur that shifts you between gears. They come in a million different shapes and sizes for all sorts of bikes, and here at Off Course we keep them all!

What are they there for, though? Really, they’re a sacrificial part, and we’ll explain why. If that area of your bike takes a hit, whether it be a rock on the trail or falling off the roof of the car (it’s happened to the best of us!), it’s better for an inexpensive part like a hanger to bend than for your derailleur to snap or your frame to crack. For this reason, hangers are deliberately made from a softer grade of metal than these other areas of your bike. Usually, a bent hanger can be realigned by our skilled mechanics, but if stressed beyond repair, they must be replaced.
