To choose a H.A.T. , you’ll need to know the thread pitch of your front thru-axle. The best way to do this is to remove your front axle, and see if it is written on the axle itself.
If you are unsure, we highly recommend using the Robert Axle Project Axle finder Tool. Select “wheel only – front” and enter your bike details. Once you have a result, choose the H.A.T. that matches the axle in the axle finder.
For a general guide to the thread pitches we offer, see below:
12 x 1.5mm: Many (though not all) gravel forks. Enve, Fyxation, Lithic, and rigid forks using 12mm paragon machine works dropouts. If the Axle Finder doesn’t give a result, use the Robert Axle Project 12mm thread measuring template.
14 x 1.5mm:Â 15mm thru-axle Fox forks. *On fox forks, while the axle diameter is 15mm, the thread diameter is 14mm.
15 x 1.5mm:Â 15mm thru-axle Rockshox Forks, MRP, SR Suntour, and other brands.
Still unsure? You can pick up an ever-useful Metric Thread Pitch Gauge for about $10 online or at your local hardware store. these are simple to use, and you can find a short, clear video on how to use them here.
Is your thru-axle something other than the above thread pitch? Please be patient, and subscribe to our mailing list (bottom of home page) to find out when new options become available. We’re working on solutions for common thru-axle styles we don’t currently support.
Please see the photos in the product description, and a full video walkthrough below. We also made these .PDF Instructions for you to download so you have them handy far from cell service 🙂 Keep in mind, Adam’s H.A.T. is a bikepacking tool, not a replacement for a $100 + shop alignment tool with a gauge. Once you’re finished with your ride, we recommend either replacing your hanger, or aligning it with a dedicated gauge. For a video demo and comparison to a professional shop derailleur alignment gauge, see below.
