Mica Rat Tail Rear Rack Black
Rat Tail is not a pannier rack – this minimalist rack is designed to support a 6-9″ (15-23cm) diameter drybag and serve as an alternative to a bikepacking seat pack.
Weighing in at 410g, including all mounting hardware, it is lighter than many seat packs of the same size – even after adding a drybag and straps – while offering more stability, full use of a dropper post, and a place to install bottle cages, cargo cages, or other accessories.
This award winning rack was described by Bikepacking.com as “a brilliant option to turn any hardtail [or rigid bike] into a light, bikepacking-ready steed, whether it has rack mounts or not.”
Rat Tail is designed to work on bikes without threaded rack mounts. It mounts to the seat post or seat tube with an included clamp, and the vertical struts mount to the seat stays with either heavy duty zip-ties or small hose clamps. On larger road frames, where the seat post might be a long ways above the rear tire, you might be interested in the option of using a Seat Stay Bridge Adapter to mount from a fender or brake mount on the seat stay bridge.
If you’re looking at the Tailfin rear rack this is a good alternative, without any proprietary needs, and is lighter than the alloy Tailfin Pannier Rack model.

- Rack with 3-pack mounts on vertical stays.
- 35mm seat post/seat tube clamp with shims for 27.2mm, 30.9mm, and 31.6mm.
- The 35mm clamp size fits directly onto many frames, below the seat post (as pictured). Contact for other sizes.
- Seat stay mounting blocks.
- 10mm bolts for the bottle/accessory bosses
- Heavy duty zip ties for mounting seat stay blocks. (5/16″ wide hose clamps will also work in the place of zip ties, and can be found at your local hardware store.)

IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING RACK FITTING
- Whilst typically not a difficult process, fitting racks is often fiddly and can easily take 30-60 minutes of workshop time
- Most rack fits will require some degree of cutting, cold-setting, filing or adapting to install properly
- We are not able to accommodate people installing racks themselves at the shop
- If you would like us to fit a rack you purchase in-store, please be aware that you will likely need to book a fitting, or leave the bike with us until we have time to squeeze it in
- If you're purchasing a rack in-store, or collecting an online purchase to install at home, please make sure you have some way to carry it home.
