René Herse 700 x 44 Snoqualmie Pass TC

$125.00$150.00

All-road tires don’t get any better than this! We name our tires after the passes in the Cascade Mountains that inspire them: Snoqualmie Pass was the route of the Olympian Hiawatha express train to Seattle. Today, a trail heads up the pass, with spectacular views as you traverse the old railroad trestles. You’ll enjoy the speed and grip of the supple casing on the paved sections of the climb, and the large air volume will have you float over the rough gravel rather than grind through it.

The Standard casing is our more affordable option: comfortable and fast, yet also strong to withstand considerable abuse. The Extralight casing takes the performance, comfort and feel of your bike to an entirely new level. The Endurance casing is reinforced for extra sidewall protection and puncture resistance, while retaining the speed and comfort for which Rene Herse tires are famous. The Endurance Plus casing provides the ultimate in sidewall protection for extremely tough conditions.

TUBELESS & SEALANT RECOMMENDATIONS:

This tyre is tubeless-compatible, however if running tubeless on Rene Herse tyres we find the extralight casing can be tricky to set up and maintain, but the standard, endurance and endurance plus casings work well. We recommend using Orange Seal sealant. Check out Rene Herse’s guide to setting up tubeless tyres here.

TECHNICAL SPECS

The supple casing of our Rene Herse all-road tires rolls smoothly over surface irregularities. The tread pattern interlocks with the road surface for superior cornering grip, whether your roads are wet or dry. The tread has enough thickness in the center to last many miles, but it’s thin and supple on the shoulders where it doesn’t wear. All models feature:

  • Clincher, folding bead
  • Tubeless-compatible
  • Maximum pressure with tubes: 75 psi (5.2 bar)
  • Maximum recommended pressure – tubeless: 60 psi (4 bar)

These tyres are lightweight and very comfortable. On the rear, I use Panaracer’s adhesive tyre-liners for added puncture protection.

  2. Peter (verified owner)

Pricey but lovely tyres, very light, roll very freely

  3. Rohan (verified owner)

The René Herse Snoqualmie Pass 700C x 44 are an incredibly expensive but incredibly smooth riding and fast rolling tyre. I switched from G One’s and am just about ready for the third set. On a gentle downhill my gravel bike rolls faster than the roadies. If you ride on rough or unpaved roads, light gravel, fire trails or non rocky single trail they are brilliant. As slicks they are hopeless in the mud, and if there are sharp rocks there is a risk of cutting into the sidewall. I run them tubeless and the sidewalls leak like a sieve when you set them up. Stans does not seal the sidewalls but Orange Seal works well. The downside to the tyre being so supple and thin is that if you get more than a tiny puncture hole, it can be challenging for the sealent to form a big enough plug in the thin tyre carcass to seal. If it does not seal I use the Dyna Plug Micro.

Love these, fit happily in a surly straggler, plush squishy sticky fast tyres and look very cool.

  5. Matthew Bibby (verified owner)

These tyres are just beautiful. Everything I expected based on past experiences with the brand. After fitting these to my Vivente, I found my average speed with 5km to 7km/ph higher on leisurely cruises around town. If you are thinking about getting these tyres, then stop reading these reviews and just get them. My only problem now is that I need bigger fenders 🙂

  6. Jon (verified owner)

I love these tyres, but they are a trade off. You can’t have everything. I love the speed and comfort of these tyres. They are the fastest and comfiest tyres I have owned in this width. Although I haven’t owned these tyres for long, based on previous experience with tyres from this manufacturer, I’m sure that they will last a long time and be very puncture resistant.

On my most recent ride, I needed to stand my bike up a couple of times in loose corners because I felt the front end starting to slip. This is to be expected because they are slick tyres. This is not a criticism, just an observation.

These tyres had a negative impact on the handling of my bike. They made the steering feel heavier less responsive than with comparable tyres. These tyres make a loud and disconcerting scrubbing noise on turn initiation. The sidewalls feel like they are deforming more than they should. Maybe I just need to up the pressure in the front, or maybe these tyres are optimised for speed over handling?

All things considered, I really do love these tyres. The pros far outweigh the cons for me. Highly recommended.
