Compatibility
The slot in the Wallay is 21mm wide which is designed for Regular Voile Straps which are 20mm wide. It will also fit Nano Straps but they’re barely long enough to stretch across a Wald basket. It won’t fit an XL strap (which are 25mm wide).Â
How-to Install & Use
- Clip Wallay onto the top bar of your Wald Basket. It’s designed to stay there permanently!
- On the opposing side, loop a Voile strap through the top bar of the Wald basket and back through its buckle.
- Take the open end of the Voile and buckle it through the Wallay. Pull it to sinch down your load and buckle it in the same motion.
- Use the supplied strap keeper to tidy up the loose end and keep it secure.
Materials
3D Printed in PETG, which is a strong and slightly flexy UV Resistant plastic on a Prusa MK3S+.
FAQ
Why did you make this?
I’ve been using a Wald basket for years but never found a decent way to strap down my bag solidly. I found bungee cords too elastic and my bag would jump around too much when hitting speed bumps or crossing roadways.
I tried using a Voile Rack Strap for a while, but the 10mm hooks on it don’t fit the Wald basket well and due to the lack of elasticity in the Voile it regularly became loose and would fly off if the load settled whilst riding.
This Wallay is essentially one end of a rack strap, customised specifically to fit onto a Wald basket.
How strong is it?
I’ve prototyped and tested this design thoroughly and the strap breaks before it will! Printed in PETG which is UV resistant, the Wallay should last a long time.
