The Persuader is our award winning mountain touring handlebar design based on many years and thousands of miles of loaded off-road touring experience, a bar focused on comfort, utility and control. We have two variants of the Persuader, the original version in heat treated and triple butted chromoly steel with a clear powder coated raw finish or the new heat treated 7000 series aluminum alloy in a shot peened black finish. Both versions feature a 50mm rise and a super comfy 30 degree back sweep (technically 31 degrees for the alloy bar).
The Persuader was designed with a few ideas in mind – First, we wanted a bar that has a wide straight section next to the stem for mounting bags, so there is no forward sweep. Next, we wanted to maximize real estate in the grip area so that you could use a variety of grip/brake lever/shifter options and leave plenty of room to trim to your desired width. The narrowest we’ve trimmed them to is 760mm, but there was still plenty of room left to go narrower. To get both a wide front section and a long grip section, we paid extra to have custom tooling made to get the bend radius in the bar as tight and compact as possible. ISO Mountain tested.
The new Alloy Persuader has taken the original bar design and refined it, by giving the bar a full width 31.8mm clamping area, there is plenty of room to mount a variety of accessories. The original Persuader bar is as nice of a steel bar as we were able to produce, and we were still able to shave off half a pound with the new alloy version, as well as offer it in a new wider 840mm size for maximum control over heavy loaded bikes on rough trails.

My review is for the CroMo steel version of the Tumbleweed Pursuader Bar used on a gravel tyre converted eMTB used a a back roads electric gravel cruiser.
It’s genuine CroMo steel, thus it’s really heavy. However, weight is my one and only con for this bar. It’s actually well worth the spend.
This handlebar is a real world bar.
The 30 degree back sweep for me, is the best angle to be gripping a flat bar for hours at a time. I’ve tried a 45 degree sweep and conversely 9,12 and 20 degree back sweep bars – 30 degrees is the perfect compromise between ergonomic comfort and wide bar steering control. The 50mm rise is also another ergonomic / comfort boost, my back appreciates having my bars elevated just that bit further with the extra rise.
CroMo steel may be heavy but it is superb in it’s high frequency road vibration damping ability. At least as good as the quality 12 and 20 degree carbon bars I tried before discovering the Persuader Bar. Vibration damping and comfortable back sweep make for a truly great real world compromise bar.
The bars finish is, well made, very pleasing and quite unique being a polished raw steel coated in a lustrous glossy clear coat creating a dark graphite grey multi-tonal appearance which is very neutral and understated and should suit a lot of bike builds.
Well worth the extra spend over other (standard) offerings. If I were to do another build I’d buy this handlebar again without hesitation.

I have a Surly Krampus relegated to a daily commute of 12km & some weekend off-road sessions.
I wanted less rise & more sweep, previous bars having 10mm rise & 9degrees sweep & 75mm rise & 24 degrees sweep. So switching to 50mm & 31 degrees was a hopeful improvement, easing the hand, specifically palm of hand discomfort.
It’s always an experiment of sorts. Sometimes a costly one. After a month of riding, I think I found a bar that suits my riding style & feels just right.
It holds the voile straps for my handlebar bag perfectly also, as the width across from the stem runs out to the up sweep.
Tumbleweed products are well thought out.

This handlebar was recommended to me by Off Course four years ago. I should have listened. After trying three other handlebars unsuccessfully, I finally put the 20 degree Persuader on my Krampus. It’s amazingly comfortale, without sacrificing control. It also has a wide section of 30.8mm handlebar to fit devices.

I put the 20 degree sweep bars at 800mm on my Pace hardtail and they feel bloody great! Much comfier than by straighter old bars and actually better handling now being a little wider and definitely more comfy. Awesome service and communication from Off Course – top work guys x
