Rohloff Hub Servicing

Routine maintenance

Rohloff hubs are unbelievably robust and reliable, but they do need their oil changed every year or 5000km whichever comes first. We can do this at the workshop or you can buy oil kits from us to do at home or on the road.

Servicing

We also have the specialist tools and spare parts for doing more serious jobs like changing the seals and bearings.

The main reason to bring a Rohloff hub in for a service is oil leaks, as the oil can contaminate disc brakes and stop the brakes working. If you are having leak issues with a Rohloff hub our first step is usually to thoroughly clean the hub and perform an oil change as some ‘seepage’ can occur from large changes in temperature, pressure or being laid on the side for long periods of time. If it is more that ‘seepage’ and teaspoons worth or oil is coming out of the hub then it’s likely you have a leak and the hub may need an overhaul. As part of an overhaul we remove the internals from the hub shell, check the bearings (replace them if needed), replace all the seals and gaskets to give the hub the best chance of being reliable. An overhaul costs $400+ but in our experience hubs can run for 5+ years between overhauls.

We also have all the tools, parts and skills to replace Rohloff shift cables, rotors, cogs etc.

We stock a full range of Rohloff IGH hubs and accessories as well as Shimano hubs. Click here to book in a hub service or contact us to discuss an Internal Gear Hub wheel build today.
